Hey,

The team are thinking about splashnig out and "maybe" getting a whole new site layout and design. If we do so, we would like to hear what you want to the site layout to look like and what features/ enhancements you would like to see?

Comment below, no matter how minor.

E.G

"Red back ground, New logo (this is a deffo), IM feature in the forums, Quicker buffering, Better profile page."

Just give us all of your ideas... please explain why when you give your answers and I will update this post as the ideas follow!

Thank you

Team Young Directors.

well for starters i think these forums are great (not my point)
the colour scheme of the site is well lets face it, a bit lame, now i'm not sure what colours go well together but the gold and yellow is not working, its too... yellow.
black and red is always a good combo or black and white with silver something classy so that it's good for everyone. you could do a http://www.newgrounds.com/ type thing with the gray orange and black, but its not original and looks a bit too full on, try the same type of layout with other cohesive colours like black, grey and red. or you could go for the adobe type colour scheme which i think would look great with the videos being the colour for the whole site (maybe other little coloured things)this is what i mean: http://www.adobe.com/ you have to refresh the page to see both (i think the black one looks better)
well that's all for now but I'll think of some more  Smiley

I would use this site much if some of the following issues were addressed...

01) the html coding could use some debugging
02) the look of the site is bland and unappealing. Since the focus is on directors you might want to use a director's chair as a logo for the site. Then I would use different shades of black and white to give the entire site a look of a classic silent film. Take a look at my site's design http://www.jamesbradfordhuston.com/. I would enjoy joining the team to help create a visually catching appeal to the site.
03) The rating system on this site is horrible. It leaves lots of room for confusion. The best rating system on the web can be found on a site called Newground http://hydrozero.newgrounds.com/. Not only that, but they have this terrific idea of daily and weekly winners. This means that if you have an accurate rating system then people who are visiting the site for the first time will probably take a look at daily and weekly winners.
04) Everyone gets one vote. It's just fair and more accurate to write in some html code for that sort of thing.
05) Besides Newground, deviantART http://jameshuston.deviantart.com/ is also a great site to borrow ides from. I personally like customization. People like having avatars and a fun user page. Maybe borrow from Myspace when letting people create user pages wouldn't be so bad.
06) finally, I would create an annual awards program with similar categories to the Oscars. Through out the year individuals can earn "nomination points" for various categories.
07) the general layout is a little confusing. A small tweak should fix that issue

Well I've thought of all I could think of. I hope that my ideas are non intrusive and helpful. If I don't here back from you I wish you luck on the undertaking.

The layout is a bit of a youtube clone. In fact, I thought it was a phishing site when I first joined.

I like all the ideas discussed so far. But what about adding a magazine component? Feature a director a month (or week) and write up a profile about them? Make a resources section with, fund raising ideas, tips and tricks, etc. Maybe have an area bout tech, and new gadgets that makes filmmaking easier.

This site has potential.

Loving the ideas and we would like you all to keep them coming, we are not ignoring any of them. This is a sample, but I believe this kind of black and silver would go nice (taken from an msn template)...

I agree with almost everything that's been said so far. Try not to 'borrow' ideas from other sites though. We like originality!! I think a layout tweak or two would improve the site vastly. Not sure on specifics, but sometimes it seems a bit... counter intuitive.

Love the work you're doing though.

I'd like to see better categorising for the videos and audios. And maybe update the front page videos with the weekly best. Then people visiting the site could see the best of what we have to offer quickly, but it would also update quickly. That would be a cool feature. I like the "what other people are watching" section. Maybe put that somewhere discreet on every page?

As for colour schemes: Red, black and white, but it's a bit over done. Black and dark purple. Maybe blues? I dunno, any colour really, as long as it looks professional.

when uploading videos (and possibly after) there should be a facility for adding meta data for that video e.g.
Director:
producer:
Camera man:

and a list of the main actors.
